Transportation noise has become one of the major environmental issues in our modern society. I&R is considered one of the leading consulting firms in the West Coast that provide a full range of testing and design services for the abatement of transportation noise and vibration. We have completed a large number of transportation noise studies ranging from environmental impact assessments to developing comprehensive mitigation measures for residential, commercial and other types of existing and proposed developments.

I&R provides expert acoustical consulting services throughout California for the Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The firm successfully completed a three-year "on-call" contract with Caltrans from 2001 to 2004 to conduct noise and vibration studies throughout the state. Under previous "on-call" contracts to Caltrans, the firm has conducted research on several noise-related topics. Studies have included effects of sound barriers and atmospheric conditions on long-range noise propagation, and noise reduction benefits of sound absorption materials on sound barriers and alternative road paving methods. All of these studies are based on extensive noise monitoring programs under controlled weather conditions.
